Belnorth Newsletter: President’s Letter to members

2024 – What a year!

Dear Members,

I am writing to thank all our members for a fantastic 2024. Participation in football has gone through the roof this year. For the first time, we were able to run our Just For Girls winter competition with individual age groups from under 6s to under 9s. This is a huge achievement and speaks volumes about the impact of the Matildas and our very own Canberra United promoting the game and inspiring players of all ages to play for the first time or return after a break.

This year, we kicked off the season with a sold-out preseason program for our U8s-U11s. Thanks to Jimmy and his team the kids had six packed sessions teaching them the four core skills: Striking the Ball, First Touch, 1 v 1 and Running with the Ball. On the final night, the kids demonstrated how to put it all together in a riveting mini-World Cup.

Rolling into winter, we saw over 1600 children and adults putting on their boots and having a run. A successful season isn’t possible without our fabulous volunteers. If you put your hand up to coach, manage or play taxi during the season, we thank you!

This year Belnorth FC provided the following:

  • Financial assistance to families via our Hardship program
  • Investment in junior development (Coerver Coaching)
  • Boot and secondhand gear exchange
  • St Monica’s Fete Sponsorship
  • Donations of equipment to Gold Creek Primary
  • Canberra United Sponsorship
  • Junior Referee’s and Game Day Staff employment and training

Summer Competition

If you managed to secure a spot in either our junior or senior summer competitions, you are lucky. Both competitions filled quickly, with our junior competition spreading to extra fields and an extra night to fit in as many players as possible. The work behind the scenes to get this competition up and running and continue to run smoothly for the 10 weeks is mammoth.

A joint effort from Committee members, game day staff, referees and game leaders keeps it ticking over every week. If you spot any of our crew on a Monday or Tuesday, please thank them for their efforts, or better yet, help pull out and pack away some goals, and they’ll know you appreciate them.

Looking to 2025

During the 2024 season, Belnorth FC had EIGHT (8) volunteers on the Committee to keep the club running. This includes winter competitions, summer competitions, preseason training, and grading programs. It has been a lot of work and, most weeks, the equivalent of a second full-time job.

For 2025, we are seeking support from our membership to continue to deliver the quality service we achieved in 2024, but hopefully more. Looking forward, we would like to work towards a program that keeps our community vibe but offers additional training and challenges for players who want more.

We are not an academy but a feeder club for Belconnen United Football Club. Each year, our talented players try out for spots in the NPL, and in 2025, the teams will range from under 11s to first grade. For those who want more but are not NPL-ready or want the training without the pressure, we would like to develop a suitable in-season training program.

What we need

People to join not only our Committee (vacancies are below) but also those who can help us behind the scenes with planning and tackling all the admin that goes with running a club.

We understand a Committee role is a big commitment and not for everyone, but if you can help out answering emails, mapping players to teams, chasing registrations, or just helping out when we have chores to do (goal maintenance, kit preparation and return etc) we would love to hear from you!

You can contact us via our volunteers page below.

Belnorth Annual General Meeting

We would love you to join us at the 2025 Annual General Meeting. Whether you are thinking of joining the Committee or just want to know what we’ve been up to this year, please come along for a listen and a chat.

Ruth Parker
