Silent Sidelines is Coming, 8th & 9th of August 🤫🍭
Belnorth will have a Silent Sidelines weekend for all teams U5 to U18 along with Seniors and Masters on the 8th and 9th of August.
What is Silent Sidelines?
Silent Sidelines is an initiative to encourage parents and spectators to be completely silent, aside from supportive clapping.
The goals of Silent Sidelines are:
- Player development: Help players to learn to communicate on the field without unnecessary sideline instructions.
- Player enjoyment: Children can play without excess pressure to perform.
- Referee retention: Eliminating unhelpful criticism that degrades referee performance,
- Spectator enjoyment: No uncomfortable sideline behaviour!
In the coming weeks we will provide further information about the weekend and how parents and spectators can participate, silently.
“Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn.”

A Pink Armband Means an Under 18 Referee
This season, you may have noticed Junior referees at Kaleen and across Canberra are wearing Pink Armbands. These brightly coloured armbands serve as a reminder that these referees are under the age of 18.
It’s an unfortunate reality that we need to remind, grown adult coaches, managers and spectators, that these referees are under the age of 18, and should be protected, while they develop their skills and continue to contribute to the game.
No referee should have to deal with abuse, intimidation and inappropriate behaviour. They should be treated with respect and be supported to foster a safe match-day environment.
There is no game without referees – and our young referees deserve the best possible experience.
If you see referee abuse, point it out by reporting it to officials at grounds or via our feedback form.
Women in Football Panel
On Wednesday 29th of July, ANU Women’s Football Club is bringing together some of the pioneers who helped shape women’s football in Canberra for a special Women in Football Panel at Ainslie Football Club.
This is a rare opportunity to hear first-hand stories from the women who built the foundations of the game locally. Reflect on how far we’ve come over the past 50 years, and explore what’s next as women’s football continues its rapid growth.
The panel will feature:
Heather Reid AM – Women’s football pioneer and Co-Founder of ANU Women’s Football Club
Kat Yuile – Co-Founder and inaugural President of South Canberra Football Club
Andrea Hotchkiss – Founder of the ACT Women’s Soccer Association and Life Member of Capital Football
- Date: Wednesday 29 July 2026
- Time: 6:30pm for a 7pm start
- Venue: Ainslie Football Club
This is a conversation that spans five decades of football history and brings together some of the people who helped make today’s game possible. We’d love to see clubs across Canberra represented in the room.
Tickets are on sale now and places are limited. Get your tickets at:

Club Jersey and Kit Laundry Care
To avoid any laundry issues with club jerseys, shorts, and socks, like fading, shrinkage, or colours running, please be aware of the following garment care advice.
- Avoid detergents with Optical Brighteners
- Avoid detergents with Enzymes
- Avoid bleach/oxi laundry products
- Wash on a cycle with a temperature of 30 degrees or less.
- Don’t soak garments
- Wash jerseys inside out
As you’ll notice from the above advice, less is more when looking after your kit and will probably be cheaper!
U10 to U18 Fixtures
U10 to U18 Fixtures beyond the immediate weekend are currently being reviewed in draft form by individual club admins to ensure fixtures are allocated to the most suitable fields for game day.
To assist members with game day planning/logistics, we have shared a list of future Belnorth draft fixtures. This will be updated manually periodically.
Unfortunately, it will not be a complete list, as there are away fixtures that the home club needs to allocate a ground/field. We do not have visibility of these missing fixtures. We hope in the coming weeks that this will be rectified, or the fixtures are published in Dribl. If your team is missing a fixture for a certain round, assume you are playing away and plan accordingly.
Capital Football have also shared a list of all U10-U15 draft fixtures that can be downloaded. They will release a U16 and U18 version next week.
For immediately upcoming home fixtures, please refer to the Net Duty Document, usually updated on Mondays/Tuesdays before the Saturday.
