Hi ACT Walking Footballers,
The ACT has been invited to participate in the inaugural WFFA Cup, the new National State & Territory Walking Football Championships, to be held in Sydney on 10–11 October 2026. Convened by Walking Football Federation Australia and hosted by Walking Football NSW, this event will mark the first formal national championship framework for walking football in Australia.
The WFFA Cup is a representative tournament designed to bring together players from across the country in true state and territory competition. This is not a club tournament or open-entry event, it is for state teams. It will promote connection across the national walking football community and create a clear competitive pathway within the WFFA structure. Teams will compete to become category champions, with an overall Australian Champion State or Territory also to be crowned. The tournament will include six categories aligned with international FIWFA age-group structures:
- Over-40s Women
- Over-50s Men
- Over-50s Women
- Over-60s Men
- Over-60s Women
- Over-70s Men
For players, this tournament will also be an important opportunity to perform on a national stage. All players at the event will be seen, with match play also available for review afterwards through video, supporting consideration for selection in Australian teams. The next international competition for Australian teams will be the FIWFA World Nations Cup, which is scheduled to take place in Paris, France, in August 2027.
Are you interested in trialling for an ACT team?
If you would like to be considered for an ACT team in any of the above age groups, then please complete an EOI here: https://form.jotform.com/261708486693067
Please feel free to pass this email onto any walking footballers you know who may be interested. They need to be ACT residents or registered with Capital Football in a CF run competition to be eligible for an ACT team.
What you need to know about being part of an ACT team
Trials will be conducted in July with dates to be confirmed once we have a better idea of player availability from the EOI responses. At this stage Monday mornings, Friday and/or Sunday evenings are the most likely options given access to fields is limited during the winter football season. Training for the tournament will then take place at least once a week from August until the tournament.
Players should prepare for personal travel and transport costs, tournament costs and uniform costs. The WFFA has advised that the tournament entry fee is expected to be $120 per player (to be confirmed). Any team sponsorship we secure will look to help offset player costs. Accommodation for those needing a place to stay will be around the Dee Why (NSW) area, as the championships will be held at Cromer Park https://maps.app.goo.gl/Wfuiu43HuAE9GsLf9
The WFFA is looking for tournament referees. If you know of anyone who loves the game, isn’t planning to play, but would love to join the trip and referee, please let us know.
We look forward to hearing from you and hope that the ACT will be represented in the inaugural WFFA Cup.
Thanks,
Jo
