The U9 to U10 to Transition

Every year, a group of players move from U9 to U10. It’s a big change for these players and parents. Unlike in U5 to U9 where you play at Kaleen every week, with U10 and older there are a combination of Kaleen fixtures and away games right across the Canberra region and sometimes a little further.

U10 teams will move to half fields and play 9-a-side with a size 4 balls.

U10 and up also mean teams are graded into divisions. For some players, and let’s not kid ourselves, parents, this meets their aspirations and goals to a tea, as they want to play at the highest level possible and develop their game.

In February every year, we conduct grading for U10 to U18 players, so that we can place players, as a team, into their appropriate divisions. This process is optional for all players at this age group, but mandatory for those wishing to play in the highest divisions*.

For other players and parents, it can be quite concerning. A group of friends, sometimes, just want to keep playing with their buddies at Belnorth and stay on the same team. This is perfectly fine and encouraged at Belnorth. We call these groups, Friendship Teams. It is recommended Friendship groups attend grading, but if these groups of players do not grade, they are generally placed in the lower grades, unless there is good reason to be placed higher. Friendship groups can submit an EOI for groups and teams.

At Belnorth we try to cater to as many players as possible. For players that have the ball seemingly glued to their feet (or hand), we feed into Belconnen United FC for their NPL programs. For competitive community players, we offer higher divisions. And for those that love the game and just want to participate, we have a place for them too.

*U12-U13 SAP and U14 division 1 trials are currently under way. Contact td@belnorth.org if still interested.

Player, Referee & Team 2026 EOI

Knowing the potential disruption caused by the loss of Gungahlin United to the football community, Belnorth FC is accepting EOI from Junior and Senior players, referees, teams, and coaches for the 2026 winter season. This will assist the club’s planning for next season.

Below are EOI forms. 2025 Belnorth members are welcome to submit their interest ahead of 2026.
