National Volunteer Week

This week is National Volunteer Week (NVW), 19th to 25th May. To celebrate the week, the Australia Sports Commission (ASC) is developing a digital engagement map with the aim to highlight as many sport volunteers as possible, across different sports, roles, demographics, and locations throughout Australia. They want every football volunteer to see themselves on the map, from those who volunteer half an hour a week up right up to those who have been volunteering for 50+ years.

And don’t forget, to get involved with Belnorth as a volunteer, head over to our Volunteer page where members can find out about roles and declare interest in them.

3 cheers for volunteers!

Parking: Underground parking is off Efkarpidis Street or there is more parking over the road.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please bring your cleaned boots and put them on just prior to the photo. Don’t come into the club wearing your boots. This often brings unwanted grass into the club and is not appreciated.

Wet Weather

On Thursday and Friday, we have between 19 and 80 mm of rain forecast, putting a potential dampener on our planned weekend of football.

Generally speaking if we have 20mm of rain over a 24 hour period, this renders sports grounds unfit for use. During winter this is especially problematic due to lower temperatures resulting in reduced drying capability and less sunlight not allowing optimal grass growth/recovery.

If there is minimal rain leading into Saturday, there is a good chance that fields will be safe to play on. Having said that we do understand that dragging some U5-U9 to Kaleen whilst it is raining isn’t appetising for some. Some want to play rain, hail or shine, others not so much. Parents also share differing expectations of when to play and when not when it is raining.

As you will appreciate, it is an evolving situation. The default position will be that games are proceeding at Kaleen and Giralang until announced otherwise. These announcements will occur via our social media channels, Facebook and Instagram.

For U10-U18 and senior games, home and away, there will be also be notifications on Dribl of any washouts. Capital Football will also list any field closures here.

Parking outside the box at Kaleen

With only 259 parking spots via Birie and Turon Place, parking is at a premium at Kaleen. On-street parking is available, but please be respectful of local residents and park safely/legally.

Parking inspectors regularly patrol the vicinity of sports grounds to support safe parking. You can be fined for parking a vehicle:

  • On a footpath
  • On a nature strip or roadside verge
  • On the wrong side of the road and not in the direction of travel

A parking hack at Kaleen worth considering. Instead of looking for spots on or off Diamantina Cres, try parking on the other side of the stormwater drain along Wakool CctCampaspe CctFlorentine Cct or Tyrrell Cct.

Otherwise, consider carpooling or riding a bike to Kaleen.

No Kicking Balls Against Shipping Containers

We ask that parents, coaches and managers, tell their players to not kick balls against the club’s shipping containers at Kaleen.

This is to ensure that the attached signage is not damaged and to increase the life of the club’s footballs.

“It’s hard to keep an open mind if you don’t have an open heart.

You don’t have to agree with what people think to learn from how they think. You don’t have to share their identity to be curious about what shaped it.

Treating people with civility is a prerequisite for discovery.” – Adam Grant
