Henk’s Summer Comp in Full Swing
After some lightning postponed the start of the Junior Summer Comp in the first week, we have now had two full successful Junior rounds and three weeks for our Seniors.
Like last year, our competitions are bursting at the seams, with the Junior comp spilling over to Giralang and at Kaleen on Tuesdays before the Seniors.
Unfortunately, we were delayed in confirming team nominations, and we thank you for your patience while we worked through this. The delay was due to a Capital Football administrative mistake that removed protected field allocations at Giralang without consultation and granted access to another club outside the Belconnen region. Belconnen United was also affected by this mishap, which was discovered via social media on the eve of confirming our summer comp nominations. This error hampered Belconnen United’s already advertised trials at Giralang, causing angst for the volunteers of both our clubs.
Thank you to the volunteers who made this happen, including having discussions with Belconnen United and other local sporting clubs about field access.
Belnorth FC Endorses Fund Football Fairly
Belnorth Football Club endorses Fund Football Fairly’s work and what it seeks. We are sharing an Open Letter explaining what the football community asks of the ACT Government and why. We invite you to read the open letter and participate in the campaign.
Fund Football Fairly is a grassroots campaign group working with Capital Football and local football clubs to secure improved ACT Government funding for football in Canberra.
Football is by far the largest participation sport in Canberra but receives a fraction of the Government funding received by other sports.
This is not fair!
Fund Football Fairly seeks to change this by drawing on the support of the local football community to lobby the ACT Government for fairer funding in 2024 and beyond.
They have three funding requests:
- Deliver a significant capital works program to upgrade football facilities at local clubs
- Develop two dedicated football complexes, one northside and one southside
- Implement a Sports Voucher scheme
To help support this campaign, you can:
- Like/follow the Fund Football Fairly Facebook page
- Sign the petition
- Talk to your friends and teammates, your coach and your family about Fund Football Fairly
- Ask ACT election candidates if they support Fund Football Fairly’s requests to support Football.
For more information, please see an article published in the Canberra Times (paywall) on the 14th of September 2024 about Fund Football Fairly: https://www.canberratimes.com.au/story/8762772/act-soccer-group-fights-for-better-funding-ahead-of-election/
