U12 9v9 in 2023

In 2023U12s will play 9v9 on half-fields rather than 11v11 on full fields. This change aligns Capital Football U12 competitions with the other member federations (e.g. NSW, QLD, Vic).

The 9v9 format is seen as having the below benefits.

  • Closer proximity means passes are generally shorter than 11 v 11.
  • Reduced space means players take fewer touches before being engaged by a defender.
  • Quicker decision-making is required.
  • Players take almost double the shots in 9 v 9.

Pay boost for Referees

Capital Football has announced an increase in winter referee match fees for 2023 across both Junior and Seniors. Junior referees and ARs will see a 38% pay bump, and Senior match officials will see a 62% raise!

The full list of the 2023 winter match fees can be found here.

Although not a complete fix for referee recruitment and abuseCapital Football hopes it will be a part of their Referee Revolution to improve the match day experience for the football community as a whole.

If these increased referee fees have turned your head and you want to become a referee. Juniors can contact Matthew Willington, our referee coordinator, via refcoord@belnorth.orgSeniors can get in contact with Ruth at seniors@belnorth.org.
